If you’re looking for rich, fudgy brownies with plenty of Southern flavor, these Ultimate Southern Pecan Brownies deliver every time. They’re packed with toasted pecans, melty chocolate chips, and deep cocoa flavor, creating a dessert that’s perfect for family gatherings, potlucks, holidays, or whenever a chocolate craving strikes. The toasted pecans add just the right amount of crunch to balance the soft, chewy center.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 35 minutes
Yield: 16 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped, toasted pecans

Instructions

  1. Prepare the oven and pan. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch metal baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
  2. Mix the wet ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth and well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking thoroughly after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Add the dry ingredients. Fold in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt with a rubber spatula until just combined. Avoid overmixing, as this can make the brownies less fudgy.
  4. Fold in the chocolate and pecans. Gently stir in the chocolate chips and toasted pecans until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  5. Bake. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached.
  6. Cool and slice. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment paper. Slice into 16 squares and serve.

Tips for the Best Brownies

  • Toast the pecans for 5 to 8 minutes before adding them to the batter to bring out their rich, nutty flavor.
  • For extra fudgy brownies, avoid overbaking. A few moist crumbs on the toothpick are exactly what you want.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.

These Southern Pecan Brownies are delicious on their own or served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra-special dessert.
